Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should publish the project they’ve done so it can be compared to the NPP’s.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Okay FM’s ADE AKYE ABIA programme says before the New Patriotic Party (NPP) took office, in August 2016 by this time Ghanaian was in ‘Dumsor’. “Electricity was a problem,” he says.
“Before Former President John Kuffour left Parliament in 2011, Ghanaians growth was at 14%, but as of 2016 when John Mahama was leaving office, our growth has dropped 3.9%. Inflation had also increased to 15.4% yearly,” he stated.
“Before Former President left government and handed over to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) the dollar rate to cedi was One (1) dollar to One (1) cedis, however, before the NDC left power the rate was One (1) dollar to four (4) cedis,” he added.
“Before the NDC left power there was no employment because they used ‘Ghana’ for a loan from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the condition for the loan was high unemployment especially among young people,” he stated.
“Before NDC left power, there were issues with the banking sector. John Mahama admitted the same in his last state of the Nation address. The NDC at that time cancelled allowance of teachers and nurses,” Nkrumah added.
Oppong Nkrumah noted that these were some of the issues Ghana was facing among others before NPP come to power.
Mentioning some of the things the NPP has achieved, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah says, when His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo came to power, the first thing he thought was necessary was to strengthen Ghanaians economic foundation.
He further added that Akufo-Addo worked hard to restore the economic foundation. Inflation has now dropped 7% from 15.4%. The economic growth before COVID-19 has increased to 6.5%. Interest on loan he made sure is reduced.
“One district, one factory has created jobs. 232 district factory is being constructed out of our targeted 260, with 76 is working at the moment,” he said.
He added that Free Senior High School (SHS) is in full swung. “Most importantly, Akufo-Addo has shown compassion to the people of Ghana. In this COVID-19 era, he has given free water and electricity to the citizenry. Provided food for student and many others.
Touching on Infrastructure, Nkrumah says 17,334 projects across the 260 districts across the Country.
Oppong Nkrumah speaking on the NDC’s claim that Vice President, Bawumia lied about some on the projects he said NPP has done, says he need not say much before the people from the places they pointed are vindicating us.
“What we are saying is that we have done infrastructural projects across the country, so you the NDC says 99% is true, however, 1% is not true then I don’t think they’ve answered our question. They should bring what they’ve done so we can compare” he added.
He urged Ghana to vote again for Akufo-Addo to continue the good work he is doing.
