We will pay contractor when we come into power – Mahama

NDC Flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama

Former President and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) say he will put contractors back to work when voted into power.

Mahama says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) asked contractors to stop work when they come to power and their work certificate since 2016 has not been paid.

He explained that construction work is interlinked with serial other sectors, they buy cement, they create jobs, they buy fuel, they buy tipper trucks amongst other things.

He said the government stopping contractors from working has affected all these other sectors.

“Most of these contractors are dead. I know of many contractors who are then because the government did not pay them,” Mahama says.

Mahama further stated that the collapsed banks are because of non-payment to the contractors. “It is a big mistake on the government’s parts,” he added.

“If he had paid the contractors, maybe the bank wouldn’t have collapsed. Today the government need ¢22 billion to repay depositors. There has been poor management,” he stated.

“I have promised to sort all these things when I come into power because they did a legitimate job for the government. After four (4) years government should have audited and known that the jobs where done. We will pay them when we come into power,” he concluded.
